Pet owners do many things that irritate their veterinarian. What about the things vets do that drive pet owners crazy? Following is a short list of the most popular things that pet owners consider the most annoying from their vet.
- No parlez vous Francias?
- My way is the only way
- Just the necessities please
- Honesty breeds trust
- Estimate $20…Bill $90
- Who knew the Grinch was a vet
Many vets try to show off their vast vocabulary of technical words. To the average pet parent, they may as well be speaking French. Owners want to understand what is going on and what needs to be done to fix any problems and they need this conveyed in everyday language.
Many vets do not believe in feeding animals a raw diet or using holistic medicines. Many of these things do work and pet parents want their vets to be open to any possible treatment that achieves success.
When it comes to tests and vaccines, pet owners want to know the basic needs of their pests and not everything that is available. Let them just the things that are necessary unless they ask.
Many vets’ candy-coat things until they know something for sure. This causes confusion when a pet owner ends up not being prepared for the worse and it occurs. Even if it hurts, they want to know what is going on.
When a pet owner is given an estimate of the cost of care, many times they have to scrape together the money needed. When they get the actual bill and it is much greater, this creates a large problem. Please don’t do anything we haven’t already agreed on and estimate on the higher side rather than the lower.
As pet owners, we bring you our pets as though bringing our children. When you act grumpy or like it is an inconvenience, we want to go elsewhere. Take time to understand we may be confused and often scared about our pet’s health and try to be more empathetic.
